The Book that Wrecked my Prayer Life

If you subscribe to http://www.raisingstickyhands.com, then you may have read my recent posts about choosing a focus word and focus verse for the year of 2017.

If not, you can check them out here:

One Word 2017- Hungry

Greater Works- One Verse 2017

Not long after this year began, our women’s Sunday school class started reading a new book together. It was clear to me in Chapter One (What Is the Answer for Stevie?) that God had ordained this study to take place at this exact time in my life. I believe He spoke to me what my focus word and focus verse for this year was to be and then He sent this book as a guide for my journey.

If the Son of God fasted and prayed for power in His ministry, why should you and I think we are exempt from these things? –The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting

The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting by Mahesh Chavda has opened my eyes and stirred my spirit deeply. I am sharing this with you because I feel it is an extremely beneficial help to the true Church….The ones that desire to witness and be involved in a supernatural move of God like never before. The ones that long to operate under the anointing of Jesus Christ that breaks yokes of bondage and sets captives free. The ones that are passionate about walking in the greater Jesus said we were capable of through Him. The ones that are tired of being defeated by a defeated devil. The ones that are willing to pick up a mantle and do what it takes to be carriers of the manifest glory of the Most High God!

The Lord desires to draw us into the intimate place of fasting where He can develop our interior life while we are still engaged in the exterior community of regular life. –The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting

I had already been asking God to show me how I could increase my prayer life. When it comes to the Bible I can read and discuss it all day long because it is the very air I breath, but when it comes to my prayer life, I have felt stalled. Let me tell you, this book is not for the weak. It is intense and God has spoken to me through every page. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God sent me an “Increase Your Prayer Life” training tool in the form of this book.

When my father-in-law was pastoring, I heard him say countless times, “If you want something new from God, you must do something you’ve never done before.” I feel like I am in preparation mode right now. I am challenging my spirit man and defying my flesh because God is up to something and I refuse to stand by and watch. I want to be a part of it! And I want you to be a part of it, too! It’s not easy and I’m not perfect, but I am doing my best to be willing, so that I can also be effective.

Sometimes even our most insignificant works of obedience are destined for far greater purposes than we can imagine! –The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting

If we want to be effective women on the warpath, we must dig deep into the power of God and Mahesh Chavda reveals how possible that is when we combine prayer and fasting together. He makes the compelling statement, “If prayer is the capsule containing our gifts and requests to God, then fasting is the booster rocket that lifts our prayers beyond the boundaries of earth and into the heavenlies.” It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Fasting sharpens the focus of our prayers and our accuracy in discerning what to do. –The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting

I encourage each of you to read this book. I don’t care if it takes you a week or 6 months, read it! Why? Because it is full of key factors that challenge the prayer lives we think we have along with the relationship with God that we have been satisfied with. It provides Biblical truths paired with personal accounts from a powerful man of God that put me to shame. I have been a child of God from a young age and was exposed to His presence early on in life. Bro. Mahesh was raised in a Hindu family and wasn’t introduced to God until he was 16 years old, and that introduction was followed by an amazing encounter!

If you have struggled like me, then take the plunge. Get your hands on a copy of this book and dive in. And then let me know what you think!

The Nitty Gritty Reader Details

  1. I am an avid reader of Christian fiction. Nonfiction, not so much. Not that I don’t enjoy the nonfiction books I read, it’s just that I have a harder time making myself to sit down and focus so that I can glean from what the authors are sharing. That being said, if I can read this book, so can you!
  2. Another deterrent I have experienced when reading Christian nonfiction is an author who is obviously over my head. If I can’t comprehend what I’m attempting to take in than I most likely give up on the attempt. Thankfully this book does not fall into that category. Again, if I can read this book, so can you!

*Please note that I completely understand the Bible comes first and as previously stated, it is the air that I breathe. I am in no way putting this book above the Bible or it’s author above God. I am just grateful that God gives wisdom and insight to His believers and allows them the platform to share those revelations with other believers who are hungry for greater, and I just couldn’t keep it to myself. 🙂

Army Arise

Two weeks ago we had our launch party. As unorganized as I was, it was great and we all had a lot of fun. We were all excited leading up to the launch in the Women On The Warpath Facebook Battalion. We had fellowship, prizes, and a lot of laughs at my expense. We had fun! I loved it… but the launch wasn’t all it. We had our launch, now it is time to soar.

A few days before, God gave our battalion MARCHING ORDERS. I will come back to those in another post, but He also said that He would give us more time and time again. He built us to be an Army.

Our name and theme are not an accident! It is not just to go with the trendy old phrase of prayer warriors or to hop on the war room bandwagon. He wants us to be a battalion for Him! He didn’t send us through boot camp and launch us to just sit. He wants us to soar! He wants us to learn new skills and tactics to take the enemy out. He wants us to train new recruits!

What happens when a new recruit goes to boot camp? They are trained, and they are waiting for that graduation; excited to move on. But then what? Then they are off to fight, to train more, and do all that they were trained to do.

It is time for the army to arise!

Many times when I am praying and studying about this ministry I am taken to the book of Joel. When God revealed this word to share with you all the night of the launch party, He gave me two sources of scripture. One from Joel and one from Esther. I want to leave these passages with you to pray over.

Joel 1:14

Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land
Into the house of the Lord your God, And cry out to the Lord.

Ladies, it is time for us to cry out! It is not the time for us to just sit back and say, “Well, we got to launch so now we can sit back and relax as a battalion and just see all of our prayers answered because we worked hard this last year. We know all that there is to know, so now we can just take it easy.” It’s not going to happen that way! We have to keep training! Soldiers, after basic training, they go on to learn more and undergo more training. That’s how they move up the ranks… and if we want to move up the ranks in the Kingdom of Heaven then we are going to have to keep fighting, learning, and training. We are going to have to fast longer, pray harder, and fight even more.

You don’t ever reach a point where you just sit back and your prayers are answered.

Esther 4:13-16

13 And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews.
14 For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai:
16 “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”

Ladies… This needs to be where our mindset is right now. If we have to fast and give things up that we adore. If we have to pray until our eyes are completely dry. If we have to stay on our knees until we can’t get up, then so be it. We will beseech the Lord and we will fight for what is right!

If those scriptures I quoted above don’t describe what our Battalion and prayer days are about, I don’t know what does. Buck up, warriors. Time to pull up our boots, plaster on some war paint, and hit the fields. It’s time for war! ARMY ARISE!

He’s looking for a few good women. Women that will rise up an army and fight for Him. Women that are not afraid to take out the enemy. Women willing to fast and pray as if everything depends on that one prayer… because it may.

Now… Will you fight with us?

How Do I Hear When God Speaks?

God our Father has created us in such a unique way – we each have our own “flavor” so to speak. I first “heard” him at the age of five. In other words, I was aware of a loving presence and even though I had not been taught or taken to church, I knew Him. Children are more susceptible to His presence, I believe, than many adults. I remember to this day the very moment I became aware of His loving presence at that young age.

The term “practicing the presence of God” has been thrown about a lot lately. To me it isn’t practice – it is presence. Each of us is a unique creation and He knows how to speak to us at just the right time in just the right way. Every time I read His Word He is speaking to me through that Word. I “hear” Him when He speaks through His Word. It comes as a “knowing” in my spirit. I have been in His Presence enough that I recognize Him. He speaks sweet peace.

Each of us is uniquely and wonderfully made and we all have one thing in common – we are His Creation and we are not here by chance. The last thing I do EVERY night is read His Word – it brings sweet peace and I am tuned into Him before I close my eyes. Is my world perfect? Not by a long shot – but I have learned this one thing – Jesus loves me this I know and He always speaks to me through His Word that gets me through this world. If you’re having difficulty understanding – do not fret. If possible, let the last thing you do before you turn out the light is read His Word. If it’s only one verse – start with that – and thank Him for His mercy and grace – do like I do if need be – “think to Him” – I know that sounds simple but He knows your thoughts. He wants to hear you as much as you want to hear Him. Even today sometimes, I still have to go before Him as that little barefoot five-year-old girl with the brown pigtails who wonders in awe of such love.
